Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Oshawa Generals got a big win at home as they hosted their barber-poled rivals from Ottawa on Friday. Boone Jenner, Scott Laughton, and Tyler Biggs all scored for the Generals in their 4-2 victory. Daniel Altshuller picked up the win making 21 stops while Jenner scored twice in the game to give him the league lead in goals with 22.
The 3,742 fans at the General Motors Centre were treated to a fast-paced first period, with the Generals taking the lead after two quick goals. With the Generals short-handed three minutes into the first, the league's best powerplay went to work giving the 67's a lead. Dante Salituro and Ryan Van Stralen worked a quick give-and-go that beat Altshuller blocker side to open the scoring.
The Generals responded midway through the period with Boone Jenner and Scott Laughton scoring just 15 seconds apart. Jenner scored his 21st of the season after a pass to the slot bounced off an Ottawa defenseman and past goaltender Clint Windsor to tie the game at 1-1. Laughton looked like he had missed no time at all, bringing the Generals faithful to their feet as he undressed the 67's defense to follow-up Jenner's marker to give Oshawa the lead.
The period ended with the Generals outshooting Ottawa 17-9.
Both teams picked up the physical play in the second, each trying to wear out the other team. Offensive chances didn't pick up the middle of the frame when Oshawa was given an extended powerplay after both teams picked up major penalties.
The Generals powerplay went to work as Oshawa kept the puck in the 67's zone creating several chances that either just missed, or were turned away by the Ottawa netminder.
On Oshawa's fourth powerplay chance of the game, the Generals broke through with Boone Jenner's second goal. Jenner's point shot bounced off the far side post and past Windsor to give the Generals a 3-1 lead into the third period.
The 67's dangerous play on the man-advantage continued in the third as 2:45 into the period, Cody Ceci brought Ottawa within one on their second powerplay chance of the night. The 67's continued with their momentum firing several shots, but Altshuller stayed calm and collected, making several key saves to keep the Generals ahead.
With Ottawa's net empty in the dying minutes of the game, Tyler Biggs got two chances at the yawning cage, putting the first off the side of the net before trying again 20 seconds later, sealing the deal.
Oshawa outshot the 67's 41-23.
Sebastian Uvira was awarded Dickies Hardest Player of the Game, with Jenner and Laughton picking up the first and third star selections.
The Generals are back on home ice Sunday afternoon to take on the Niagara IceDogs at 2:05 PM at the General Motors Centre.
