Niagara IceDogs News Release

After being on the road for three games, the Niagara IceDogs returned home to the Gatorade Garden City Complex picking up a big 4-1 win over the visiting Belleville Bulls on Friday night!

The Niagara IceDogs got their two game home stand off to a quick start with an early goal from Mitchell Theoret, who scored only 31 seconds into the first period. The 1-0 IceDogs lead would continue late into the period, as both teams would battle throughout the period causing pressure on both goaltenders. The Belleville Bulls would finally score the tying goal with 2 minutes left to send the teams into the first intermission tied 1-1. At the end of the first, the shots would also be tied 8-8.

The Niagara IceDogs and Belleville Bulls continued to exchange chances in the second period with a fast paced match-up at both ends of the ice. Belleville would use three powerplays to carry the play for much of the period, outshooting the IceDogs 12-4 in the period, but Festarini was excellent and Subban was solid when called upon, as the goaltenders shut the door to send the game into the second intermission tied 1-1. Shots on goal at end of 40 minutes were 20-12 in favour of the Belleville Bulls.

The teams would remain deadlocked at 1-1 in the early part of the third period as both goaltenders would remain solid to keep things tied. The tie would finally be broken midway through the third period, as Anthony DiFruscia would break the tie rip one home to give the IceDogs a 2-1 lead. The IceDogs lead would then be extended to 3-1 at the 8:10 mark of the period, as Ryan Strome would deflect home a Dougie Hamilton's point shot. Strome would then add an empty net goal with 23 seconds remaining, sending the fans home happy with a big 4-1 win!

Christopher Festarini was solid in the victory stopping 22 of 23 shots in the win.

The Niagara IceDogs will finish up the back end of their back-to-back home games when they take on divisional rivals the Sudbury Wolves tomorrow evening, Saturday November 24th at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Tickets are still available, but are going quickly, so make sure you get yours before they run out!
