Soo Greyhounds News Release
This Friday Night (Apr. 13) marks the Soo Greyhounds first home game since the tragic events involving the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League late last week.
In an effort to show solidarity and support for those affected, our organization will show our respect and look to contribute in a number of ways.
Firstly, we are privileged to be working with Rob Trembinski and Jeff Hunter, both of whom are corporate sponsors with EXIT Realty Lake Superior and Prouse Motors, who designed the limited edition #HumboldtStrong T-Shirts.
Limited quantities of these shirts (shown below) will be available to purchase at this Friday's game for a minimum donation of $20.
Sizes S to 3XL will be available at the tables set-up at section 101 and 106 of the Essar Centre Concourse.
Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go directly to Humboldt.
Those fans wishing to make a monetary donation to the ongoing fundraising for the Humboldt Broncos will be provided the opportunity to do so using the "buckets" placed at the tables in section 101 and 106 as well.
Greyhounds fans will also notice a couple of tributes in place for the Broncos.
We are proud to have worked with the City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Essar Centre to replace their existing rinkboards in the arena, with the tribute boards shown below.
These rink boards will remain in place for the duration of the 2018 OHL Playoffs
Additionally, each Greyhounds' player has the following sticker placed on their helmets to pay respect.
Fans and residents of Sault Ste. Marie can also get involved in a number of initiatives currently in place:
- A GoFundMe page has been set-up to raise money for the players and families affected. You can donate by visiting that page HERE.
- The City of Sault Ste. Marie has made a book of condolences available for signing at the Civic Centre until this Friday, April 13
- Local business Aurora's has announced that proceeds from this month's sales of $10 punch cards will be going to the Broncos organization. You can purchase your punch cards by visiting either location at 300 Second Line West or 760 Second Line East.
