June 6, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release

The Duluth Huskies scored nine runs in the first two innings of Tuesday's game and never looked back, rolling past St. Cloud 11-2 at Joe Faber Field.

Augie Isaacson drew a walk to lead off the game and advanced to second base on a balk. Tony Monroy drove him in with a single to right field, giving Duluth an early 1-0 lead. A walk and a base hit loaded the bases for Omar Veloz who blooped a two-run single into the shallow outfield grass. Later in the inning John Lagattuta scored on a fielder's choice. The Huskies sent eleven batters to the plate in the second inning and scored five runs, capped by Hunter Biggs's two-run single.

The Rox got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to get within seven runs. General MacArthur led off the top of the seventh inning with a double and was driven in by Bigge, who doubled in the next at bat. Bigge would come around to score on a groundout.

Troy Newell (1-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out four in seven innings while allowing two runs on four hits. Zach Lauzon (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in one inning of work. Monroy threw two scoreless innings of relief, scattering two hits while recording four strikeouts. Bigge and Omar Veloz each finished with three RBI and all twelve Huskies who had a plate appearance in the game reached base.

Duluth has now won four straight games and improves to 5-3 while St. Cloud drops to 3-5 on the year. The Huskies now visit Waterloo for a two-game road series on Wednesday and Thursday before returning home on Friday against Willmar.
