Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
WAUSAU, WIÂ The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (5-3) moved into a three way tie in the South Division after a 5-0 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks (4-4).
Duncan Hewitt (Butler) got his 5thhit of the season when he launched one over the left field wall to give the Dock Spiders a 2-0 lead in the 2nd. Two batters later Troy Black (Kentucky) who was up at the plate before Hewitt, hit into a 6-3 put out but drove home a run. When asked about the two run shot Hewitt added, "I've been struggling a little bit but I've been working with Ernie a lot since I got here trying to find my stroke and that one felt real good. It felt like the old me." Hewitt who is now 5/21 on the season after also picking up a single credits visualization and mentally preparing himself at bats for getting his bat hot again tonight.
The score remained scoreless until the 8th. Brett McCleary (Iowa) lined one down the 3rdbase side with runners on second and third. McCleary was able to reach the first base bag on an e5 which sent Andrew Bullock (Western Carolina) home for the 4thrun.
Jon Mierzwa (Catholic University) got the start for the Dock Spiders and struck out 6/15 batters he faced in four innings of work. Austin Wagner picked up the win pitching two innings only allowing one hit.
One player who has really left his mark on the Woodchucks this season in 4 games against them is Alex Henwood(Nebraska). One day after the Appleton, WI native went 4/5 against Wisconsin, he was able to produce 3 singles on 4 at bats. When asked about what it is against the Woodchucks Henwood said, "I feel really locked in at the plate right now. I'm not trying to do to much and that mentality has been working so I'm fortunate it kept going tonight."
In 4 games against the Woodchucks now this season Henwood is an astonishing 9/17 and also has a stolen base. After starting the season going 3/17 at the plate in the first five games, the cornhusker is now 9/13 in the last three.
The win was the first game of a six game road stretch and got the team back to winning ways after dropping the previous two games.
Dock Spiders will start a two game stand against the Rockford Rivets tomorrow in Rockford with the first pitch at 6:35.
