Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wisc. - After a solid 4-2 win Monday night, the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (3-5) fell short of their first series sweep of the 2018 campaign, falling to the visiting Kenosha Kingfish (4-3) by a final score of 11-6 from Joannes Stadium Tuesday evening. All runs for the Kingfish scored without the visitors needing to single hit to bring them across the plate. Kenosha's offense forced 15 walks from the Bullfrogs pitching staff en route to the five-run triumph.
The Frogs hit the road tomorrow morning for an early first pitch in Mequon, Wisc. to face the Lakeshore Chinooks from Kapco Park. First pitch is slated for an 11:35 a.m. start beside the shores of Lake Michigan. Fans can tune in to the live radio broadcast on WOCO Radio (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Bullfrogs center fielder Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) led the Green Bay offensive attack this evening, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and one RBI. Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) finished second on the Green Bay batting charts with a 2-for-6 performance at the dish with a RBI and run scored. Shortstop Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) went 1-for-4 with a two-run double.
For the second straight night, Kenosha struck first with a RBI groundout in the opening frame to grab the early 1-0 advantage. Green Bay answered immediately in the bottom half with Maris scoring on a wild pitch after his lead-off single followed by a RBI double from Morrison to put the Bullfrogs in front 2-1.
The Kingfish tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning before the Frogs regained the lead at 3-2 in the fourth after an errant throw by the Kenosha second baseman scored Morrison from third base.
Kenosha responded with a furious rally, tallying a three-spot in the fifth inning to gain a 5-3 lead. The three-run frame commenced a string of nine straight tallies from the fifth inning until the ninth. The Kingfish posted one run each in the sixth, seventh and eighth before three consecutive RBI walks in the ninth ended the lengthy scoring surge.
During that stretch, the Green Bay bats continued to fight as a RBI single by Maris in the bottom of the seventh made it a 7-4 game. A two-RBI double by Aguilar in the eighth trimmed the deficit down to 8-6, but Kenosha answered with the aforementioned three-run ninth inning to increase their advantage out to five runs.
Kingfish starting left-handed pitcher Colton Johnson got the win, improving to 1-0. Bullfrogs right-handed reliever David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) took the loss, falling to 0-1. Green Bay righty Colby Morris (Junior, Middlebury College) led the Frog's five-pitcher staff tonight, tossing two complete innings of scoreless relief with three hits allowed and one strikeout.
