Burlington, IA - In the opener of a three-game series at Community Field while continuing with the second leg of six-game roadtrip overall, the Bowling Green Hot Rods shutout the Burlington Bees by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night.

Coming off their first road series victory of the season against the Peoria Chiefs, the Hot Rods pitchers tossed their second shutout of the game by surrendering just three hits and five baserunners to the Bees.

Hot Rods starter Genesis Cabrera pitched another gem, giving up just two hits while facing the minimum amount of batters through five innings to improve to 3-1 on the year. With the five scoreless frames, Cabrera's ERA dropped to 0.81, which now ranks him third in the Midwest League.

To secure the win for Cabrera and their second shutout of the season as a unit, Bowling Green got two innings of scoreless work from both Armando Bastardo and Jose Alvarado. For Alvarado, the save was his second of the season.

The Hot Rods bullpen has now not given up a run in their last four games, a streak spanning 16 innings.

Offensively, the Hot Rods got their only two runs of the game in the third inning against Bees starter Luis Pena.

After outfielder Angel Moreno led off the inning with a double, he was brought in on a double by shortstop Jacob Cronenworth to put the Hot Rods on the board. Cronenworth then advanced to third on a groundout by Kevin Padlo and ultimately scored on a sacrifice fly from first basemen Michael Russell to give Bowling Green all the runs they needed.

For the Hot Rods, the victory marks the first time they have won a game when scoring three runs or less this year. The win also gives Bowling Green a three-game win streak for the first time this season and a three-game road win streak for the first time since June last year (June 6 - 8).

Bowling Green is now two games over .500 on the year (15-13), matching their high mark of the year when they won three of their first four games of the year against Dayton.

Bowling Green will attempt to secure a winning record for their six-game road trip on Friday with the second of three games against the Burlington Bees at Community Field. The Hot Rods will send LHP Michael Velasquez to the mound while the Bees with RHP Grayson Long.

First pitch is scheduled at 6:30 p.m.
