Peoria, Ill. - Four Peoria pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Chiefs defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-1 on Thursday night. The game was the opener to a three-game series in Peoria.

The Dragons trailed 4-0 in the ninth inning before putting their first three hitters on base to bring the tying run to the plate with no one out. Peoria reliever Steven De La Cruz sandwiched two walks around a hit batsman as the Dragons mounted a threat in the ninth. But Landon Beck replaced De La Cruz and after a wild pitch that brought in the Dragons first run, Beck notched three straight strikeouts to end the game.

Peoria scored two unearned runs in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Dragons starting pitcher Jose Lopez (3-3) suffered the loss. Lopez worked five and one-third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Wendolyn Baustista replaced Lopez with one out in the sixth and finished the game, allowing one run on two hits over two and two-thirds innings.

The Dragons collected four hits on the night. Shed Long and Shane Mardirosian each had doubles while James Vasquez and Luis Gonzalez had singles.
