1978 Heisman Winner Billy Sims to Appear at Bees Game May 13th

(Burlington-IA) - 1978 Heisman Trophy winner, Billy Sims will throw out the first pitch for the Burlington Bees game against the Kane County Cougars on Friday, May 13th at Community Field.

Sims will be in town promoting his restaurant chain, Billy Sims Barbeque, which will be opening a Burlington location. Billy Sims totaled 4,023 rushing yards, in four seasons, at the University of Oklahoma. Sims ran for 1,896 yards, scoring 22 touchdowns, during his junior season Oklahoma, earning the Heisman Trophy.

The former Sooners running back, played five seasons in the NFL, all with the Detroit Lions, after being the number one overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft. Sims scored 16 touchdowns in his rookie season, rushing for 1,303 yeards. The Hooks, Texas native ran for a career best 1,437 yards in his second season with the Lions in 1981.
