Bees Shutout in Series Opener

(Burlington-IA) - The Burlington Bees (11-16) were held to just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-13) on Thursday night at Community Field.

The only scoring of the game occured in the top of the third inning. Angel Moreno led off the frame with a double to left and would then score when the next batter, Jake Cronenworth, doubled to left, giving the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. After a ground out, Michael Russell made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly, scoring Cronenworth.

Jared Foster doubled to lead off the fifth inning. After moving to third on a fly out, Foster would try to score when Juan Moreno flew out to right, but right fielder Zacrey Low would throw out Foster at the plate, keeping the score 2-0.

The Bees best chance came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jared Foster led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a Ranyelmy Alberto single to right. After Juan Moreno moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, Alex Abbott would strike out looking and Angel Genao would ground out, ending the threat.

Bowling Green starting pitcher, Genesis Cabrera (3-1) earned the win while Luis Pena (0-2) was charged with the loss. Jose Alvarado (2) picked up the save. The Bees and Hot Rods continue the series Friday night at 6:30 when Jaime Barria makes the start for the Bees against Michael Velasquez for Bowling Green.
