North Carolina Courage News Release

Cary, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage announced today that agreements were reached on national team replacement contracts with Shannon Horgan and Peyton Perea. Per club policy, no further details of the transactions were disclosed. Horgan and Perea have been training with the team since the preseason. They join the team as Abby Dahlkemper, Crystal Dunn, Jessica McDonald, and Sam Mewis have been named to the United States World Cup roster and are unavailable for selection.

Perea is familiar with the area after playing four seasons at Wake Forest University under Tony DaLuz. The midfielder started 53 games for the Demon Deacons and played alongside NC Courage defender Ally Haran for three years. She had 12 goals and five assists in her college career. Perea started every game of her senior season for 1804 minutes. She totaled 4466 total minutes in four years.

"Peyton has pedigree, excellent soccer IQ, and a calming presence on the field," said NC Courage head coach Paul Riley. "She is great positionally and her range of passing is second to none. She has adjusted well to the speed of the professional game and with a big part of our midfield leaving for the World Cup she will be vital in plugging those holes."

Horgan has known head coach Paul Riley for many years, playing under him for the Albertson Soccer Club in the Elite Clubs National League. She attended Clemson University where she was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and attended the U-20 U.S. National team training camp during her freshman year. Horgan logged nearly 4,000 minutes during her college career. Horgan was invited to two U-23 U.S. National team camps in 2017 before playing for Lidkoping FC in Sweden in 2018. She logged 1430 minutes in 17 games and scored four goals.

"Shannon is a tremendous athlete with a gifted left foot," said Riley. "In the short time she has been here she has really progressed and her versatility will make her a valuable addition to the squad. Her speed, strength and ability one on one makes her ideal for our player profile."

The North Carolina Courage are back in action on Saturday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. against Sky Blue FC. Tickets for the match at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park can be purchased here or by calling the Coastal Credit Union Box Office at 919-459-8144.
