Hoppers Score Four in Ninth to Top Claws 5-2

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Greensboro scored four times in the ninth inning, taking the lead on a three-run double by Jonah Davis, to beat the BlueClaws 5-2 on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Davis' RBI double came off Gilmael Troya, but all four ninth inning runs were charged to Andrew Schultz (0-1). Schultz, making his BlueClaws debut, got the first out of the inning, but then the next four reached including three on walks. A wild pitch scored Fabricio Macias, who had doubled.

The BlueClaws (2-7/31-47) have now dropped five in a row and lost their 12th game in the final at bat. Greensboro (5-4/49-29) has won 13 of 17 meetings between the two teams this season.

Yerry De Los Santos (3-0) gave up one run in two innings but earned the win while Will Gardnerthrew a scoreless ninth for his third save.

Hunter Stovall gave the BlueClaws the lead with an RBI single to right field in the seventh inning, bringing home Seth Lancaster. Lancaster, who is now 8-19 with the BlueClaws, had doubled with one out to start the rally.

Each team scored in the first inning. Greensboro scored an unearned run on a groundout by Mason Martin and Lakewood scored on an RBI single to right-center by Carlos De La Cruz.

Lakewood starter Ethan Lindow gave up one earned run over four innings while striking out five and walking two. Lindow has allowed just 13 earned runs in his last 48 innings pitched.

Greensboro starter Colin Selby gave up one run over six innings and did not factor in the decision. Rafael Marchan had two hits for the BlueClaws while Fabricio Macias had two for Greensboro.

The teams continue their four-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Tyler McKay (2-4) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Alex Manasas (7-1).
