Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (24-21) dropped the series-opener to the Huntsville Stars (31-15) 5-2 after Greg Hopkins launched five home runs, driving in all of the Stars' five runs Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Hopkins' first home run came in the second inning. The two-run blast gave the Stars a 2-1 lead. The second long ball was a back breaker. With two on and no outs in the ninth inning, Hopkins launched a non-doubter to left to break a 2-2 tie.
The Biscuits got on the board first with a solo shot from Ryan Brett in the third inning off of Tyler Cravy. The Southern League's win-leader finished the game, throwing six innings and only allowing one run on five hits for the no-decision.
With the Biscuits trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Jake Hager led off the frame with a double to center. After a ground out and a strike out, Joey Rickard stroked a double down the left field line to drive in the tying run.
With the loss, the Biscuits fall to 1-5 against the Stars on the season.
Game two in the series is Thursday night at 7:05. RH Victor Mateo will face off with RH Drew Gagnon for the Stars.
