Barons Fall to Blue Wahoos 7-2

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game one of their five-game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos by a score of 7-2 in front of 3,450 fans at Pensacola BayFront Stadium.

Barons starter Nick McCully (2-4, 6.41) started strong, tossing 4.0 shutout innings to begin the game before running into trouble in the fifth. Three two-out runsincluding back-to-back RBI doubles by Rey Navaro and Travis Mattair put theBlue Wahoos ahead 3-0.

Trayce Thompson capped a two-hit night with a solo home run in the sixth inning and finished 2-for-3 in the game.

However, the Blue Wahoos put the game away with four runs in the bottom half of the inning sparked by a bases-clearing triple by Devin Lohman against reliever Nestor Molina, giving Pensacola a 7-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Blue Wahoos starter Daniel Corcino (4-4, 3.91) picked up the win allowing a run on four hits over 6.0 IP while striking out six.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 17-28 on the season while Pensacola improved to 20-26. The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as they send RHP Chris Beck (2-6, 4.35) to the hill against RHP Robert Stephenson (2-4, 3.74). First pitch isscheduled for 6:30 PM CDT on Thursday.
