Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - Continuous rain throughout the day on Friday forced a postponement of the final game of the series between the Hooks and Wranglers in Wichita. The lost game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Whataburger Field next week. The exact date for the twin bill has not been decided.
These two clubs were rained out Wednesday night, and made up for it with a doubleheader on Thursday. The Hooks won the first game 7-2 in nine innings, while Wichita gained a split with a 3-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Of the six scheduled dates between these two teams at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, the Hooks and Wranglers played just twice, splitting a twin bill each time.
Friday's postponement is the seventh this season for the Hooks - the sixth due to inclement weather and the fourth caused by rain. The Hooks and Wranglers got snowed out on opening day, while freezing temperatures forced a postponement the following evening. On April 19th, the first game of a four-game set at Frisco was called off due to a leaky irrigation valve at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Six of the seven postponements involving Corpus Christi have occurred on the road.
On the player movement front Friday, Hooks manager Dave Clark reported that pitchers Chance Douglass and Josh Miller were called up to Triple-A Round Rock. No immediate replacements were named, leaving the Hooks with 22 players on the active roster.
Douglass, who opened the season with the Express and made two starts, was 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 12 appearances and 11 starts for the Hooks. He tossed two perfect innings as the starter for the South in Tuesday's Texas League All-Star Game, good enough to earn him accolades as the Bank of America Outstanding Pitcher for the evening. Douglass is 6-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last eight starts.
Miller, who began the season with the Hooks, made four appearances and two starts for the Express from May 27th through June 15th. In four outings since his return to Corpus Christi, Miller has not recorded a decision while posting a 1.23 ERA in 7.1 innings on the hill. Overall, Miller is 2-3 with a 4.76 ERA for the Hooks in 13 appearances and eight starts.
Jimmy Barthmaier, who was scheduled to start Friday's game at Wichita, will now open the three-game series Saturday night at Tulsa. Lefty Troy Patton toes the slab for the Hooks on Sunday, while Ronnie Martinez gets the nod in Monday's road trip finale.
