Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The RoughRiders and Travelers split Thursday's twin bill at Dr Pepper Ballpark with Frisco taking game one 4-1 and Arkansas winning the nightcap 4-2. Armando Galarraga held the Travelers to just one run in six innings of work in the first contest, but the 'Rider offense could muster only five hits in game two as Arkansas defeated Frisco 8-2. Frisco extended its consecutive game streak of extra base hits to 61 with a double in the first game and a homer in the second.

In game one, the 'Rider offense needed only two innings to do all their scoring. In the second frame, Brandon Boggs led off the inning with a single and reached third on a John Mayberry double. A pair of RBI singles by Kevin Richardson and Anthony Webster scored Boggs and Mayberry to give Frisco an early 2-0 lead. Although Arkansas cut the 'Riders lead in half at 2-1, Frisco tacked on two more in the sixth when Mayberry scored his second run of the game coming home as Emerson Frostad reached on a Travelers' error. Frostad then came around to score on an Adam Fox RBI single up the middle to make the score 4-1.

Galarraga (6-4) allowed eight hits, but surrendered only one run to the Arkansas offense while striking out seven. Jesse Ingram notched his team-best 16th save of the season pitching a scoreless final inning to preserve the victory. Arkansas starter Jesse Smith lasted only four innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Travelers jumped on top with a run in the first inning off of Frisco starter Ken Chenard despite not collecting a hit. After the lead-off batter Bradley Coon was hit by a pitch, Coon stole second, then third, and scored on a throwing error by Salomon Manriquez while attempting to steal third. The 'Riders answered in the bottom of the first when after a Webster single, Steve Murphy hit his fifth home run of the year over the right center field wall to give Frisco the 2-1 lead. Arkansas fought back and tied the score at two with a run in the second when Coon singled in Coby Smith. Arkansas scored two more in the fifth that proved to be the difference when Sean Rodriguez hit a two-run homer (11) to left field off of reliever Brandon Puffer to make the score 4-2.

Chenard went four innings allowing two runs on only two hits while striking out six. Puffer (3-1) was saddled with his first loss on the season as he surrendered two runs on three hits in his two innings of work while Jorge Vasquez couldn't stop the bleeding as he allowed four runs in his one inning. Reliever Rich Thompson (2-3) earned the victory holding the 'Riders hitless for two innings while striking out three.

The 'Riders and Travelers will battle in the rubber match Friday night as Frisco sends Edinson Volquez (6-0) to the mound to face Arkansas' Miguel Gonzalez (4-2). Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
