Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
(Little Rock, Arkansas) - The Hooks closed out their six game road trip with a wild won in Little Rock, beating the Travs 10-8 on Wednesday and improving their road current road record to 9-6.
Wednesday's win marked the third straight victory for the Hooks and was the second in three days where the Hooks overcame a four-run deficit, as the Hooks surrendered a five-run second and a one-run third to fall behind 6-2 to the Travs.
The five runs in the second all came with two outs off of Hooks starter Mitch Talbot, as the Travs pieced together four hits in the inning. None of the hits went for a home run.
The Hooks clawed and scratched their way back however, scoring two runs in the fifth, including an RBI double from center fielder Josh Anderson, who extended his current hitting streak to fourteen games. The Travelers answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, but the Hooks countered it with a two-run sixth, cutting the lead to 7-6.
Things came together for the Hooks in the seventh when right fielder Hunter Pence launched a solo shot off of Travs reliever Allen Buckley to tie the game at seven a piece. Pence would finish the game with two home runs, marking the third straight game he's gone deep.
They then took the lead when the Hooks' newest member, Walter Young picked up his first hit as a Hook, an RBI double to score Osvaldo Fernando. Jared Sandberg then put the finishing touches on the inning with a two-run bomb. Sandberg finished the day two-for-four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Five different Hooks' batters finished the day with multi-hit games.
Hooks relievers held the Travs bats to only one run in the final four innings of the game. Blake Allen gathered the win for the Hooks and Jailen Peguero collected his eighth save of the year.
The Hooks will head home where they will battle it out for first place in the South with the Midland RockHounds on Friday Night. RHP Josh Miller (4-3, 5.24) will toe the rubber for the Hooks Friday against Midland's Ray Aguilar (2-1, 3.48). As always, Friday's game will be followed by the best fireworks show in town as Bud Light brings you "Friday Fireworks." Game time is set for 7:05 pm.
