Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

MIDLAND - For the second time in as many nights, Corpus Christi erased a late deficit, rallying for a 4-3, 10-inning victory over the RockHounds Friday at Security Bank Ballpark.

The Hooks have won 11 games in a row for the first time in their 12-year history. Corpus Christi (25-15) is now 16-3 in May.

With Midland ahead 3-1 in the seventh, J.D. Davis coaxed a one-out walk from Chris Jensen. Nick Tanielu was next and belted a 3-1 pitch deep to left field. J.P. Sportman appeared to make the catch on the warning track but slammed into the short fence in front of the Hooks bullpen. After making contact with the wall, the ball popped out of Sportman's glove and landed over the fence for a home run. Tanielu's first Double-A hit leveled the score at 3.

Lefty Chris Cotton, who authored two scoreless innings in relief of Kyle Smith, ran into two-out trouble in the seventh. Consecutive singles sparked Aaron West's entry, and West ended the frame by inducing a pop up from Texas League home run leader Matt Chapman.

The Hooks managed to push ahead in the 10th against Andres Avila (1-2). With two down, Alejandro Garcia, making his Double-A debut, lined a double into right-center. Teoscar Hernandez followed with a single thru the right side, scoring Garcia from second.

West (2-0) allowed just one hit, a pop fly double, over 3 1/3 scoreless frames en route to the triumph.

Smith made the start for the Hooks and stranded three over the first three innings. Midland (20-20) scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Chapman opened the inning with his 11th homer of the year. Jaycob Brugman capped the rally with a two-out, two-run single.

Corpus Christi struck first, notching a run against Jensen in the fourth. Hernandez sent a lead-off single into center, stole second and moved to third on an Alex Bregman fly ball. James Ramsay chased him home with a chopper to first base.

The series continues Saturday night with David Paulino (1-1, 1.74) on the hill for the Hooks. The Hounds, who have lost seven in a row, go with Raul Alcantara (3-2, 4.12). First pitch 7:00.
