Midland RockHounds News Release

The Frisco RoughRiders won both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday night at Security Bank Ballpark (the clubs were rained out Wednesday), earning a sweep of the four-game set against the RockHounds.

The 'Hounds hurt themselves in both games with defensive miscues and missed opportunities at the plate.

In Thursday's opener, a six-run second inning was the difference, with all six runs unearned. A pair of errors, a missed chance for an out on a fielder's choice at second base and a bases-loaded walk gave the RoughRiders a 2-0 lead. Lewis Brinson (double) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa (single) each then drove in a pair of runs to build a 6-0 advantage. Franklin Barreto's three-run home run in the home half of the second brought the RockHounds back to within 6-4, but they could not close the gap any further, and the Riders added an insurance run in the sixth.

A first-inning RBI single by Viosergy Rosa (the only run the RockHounds would score in the inning after loading the bases with no outs) and a towering home run from Matt Chapman in the third have the 'Hounds a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but Wade Kirkland's throwing error opened the door for a game-tying Frisco rally (both runs, again, unearned) in the seventh (and final scheduled) inning. Frisco pitching dominated over the last seven innings (see "Stat of the Day 2," below) and Garrett Weber's two-run single in the 10th would be the game-winner.

Kibbles & Bits

STAT of the DAY 1 Of the 26 runs scored by Frisco in the four-game series, only 10 were earned.

STAT of the DAY 2 After Matt Chapman's home run in the third inning, Frisco pitchers retired the last 23 they faced in game two. Victor Payano set down eight straight (after the Chapman home run) and Jose Leclerc and Juan Grullon followed with a combined five perfect innings - - Leclerc retired nine consecutive batters and Grullon six straight.

- PERSONNEL: Outfielder Tyler Marincov has joined the RockHounds from (Advanced-A) Stockton and played in Thursday's double-dip. He fills the roster of Ryon Healy, who was promoted to (Triple-A) Nashville Tuesday. Reliever Sam Bragg was activated from the disabled list (right hip) and pitched in game one. After struggling to a 29.08 ERA in two "tandem starts" to open the year, Bragg has been outstanding out of the bullpen, allowing one run on three hits, with two walks and 12 strikeouts in his last three outings (interrupted by the stay on the DL). To make room on the active roster for Bragg's return, pitcher Ryan Gorton has been reassigned to Stockton.
