MIDLAND - The Hooks scored four runs on seven hits over the final two frames Wednesday night, engineering a come-for-behind 7-6 victory over the RockHounds at Security Bank Ballpark.

The result marked Corpus Christi's first win in six games against Midland.

Trailing 5-3 in the eighth, Chase McDonald launched a lead-off home run to left field against Trey Cochran-Gil. J.D. Davis then doubled off the centerfield wall and James Ramsay served a single up the middle, levelling the score at 5.

McDonald was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a homer, double and three walks. He has five dingers and 13 RBIs in his last 6 games.

Ryan Doolittle (1-1), who hadn't allowed a run in his first 10 appearances, worked the ninth for Midland. With one away, Teoscar Hernandez hammered a 2-2 pitch into the RockHounds bullpen beyond the right-field wall. His second homer of the year made it 6-5 Hooks. A single and a free pass followed, setting the stage for Davis, who ripped a line drive into center for an RBI single and a two-run CC bulge.

Davis was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

Brendan McCurry worked around a two-out Viosergy Rosa solo home run and a Davis fielding error in the ninth to pick up his second save.

Chris Jensen made the start for the Hounds. Corpus Christi (12-13) got to him for a run in the second thanks in part to a Ramsay lead-off single. Two outs and a stolen base later, Ramsay came home on Mott Hyde's single to right field.

Midland (16-10) jumped in front 2-1 in the home half courtesy of triples off the bats of J.P. Sportman and Brett Vertigan.

Francis Martes would exit after two outs in the third. Martes was charged with two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks.

Aaron West stranded a pair in the fourth and struck out three of the four batters he faced.

The Hooks pushed in front 3-2 in the fifth thanks to a two-run shot to left-center from Davis, his first homer of the year.

Midland stormed back in the seventh with four of the first five reaching against lefty Brian Holmes (1-1). Jaycob Brugman's lead-off homer and a Sportman two-run single under the glove of a drawn-in Hyde at second base accounted for the three-run swing.

Game 3 of the set is Thursday night. Cy Sneed (1-0, 1.15) draws Midland's Raul Alcantara (1-1, 7.06). First pitch is 7:00.
