Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Hours after being named to the Texas League South All-Star team, Hooks hurlers Mike Foltynewicz and David Martinez validated the honor by holding the Missions to five hits in a clutch 6-2 Corpus Christi triumph Tuesday night at Wolff Municipal Stadium.

The Hooks (39-25) now lead Frisco by two games with six to play in the first-half race.

In the second, Foltynewicz walked two batters and Eddy Rodriguez belted a triple into the right-field corner for a 2-0 San Antonio lead.

Corpus Christi answered immediately with three runs in the third. Jio Mier hit a line-drive single into right field to open the frame. One out later, with Rene Garcia at the plate, Mier swiped second base. Garcia then beat out an infield hit to third, staging runners at the corners. Jon Singleton sent them home with a three-bagger down the right-field line. The cutoff man, Cory Spangenberg, airmailed the throw to third, allowing Singleton to score.

Enrique Hernandez, who finished the night a single shy of the cycle, hit his fourth home run of the year in the fourth inning - a solo shot to left-center.

George Springer began the fifth with a double down the left-field line. With one away, Singleton singled thru the left side and rehabbing Astro Justin Maxwell delivered his first hit in a Hooks uniform - an RBI single up the middle.

Missions starter Donn Roach (4-6) surrendered 10 hits over six innings. The sinker-baller has now allowed four home runs thru 13 starts and all of those long balls have been hit by the Hooks.

Foltynewicz (2-0) set down the final 10 men he faced in order thanks to a strikeout-caught stealing double play in the third.

Domingo Santana greeted SA reliever Josh Gear with a lead-off home run in the eighth. His 12th blast of the year was an opposite-field shot that cleared the 16-foot fence in right.

Martinez, who leads the minors with a 9-0 record, tossed four shutout frames en route to his first save. He was touched for two singles, did not walk a batter and fanned four, throwing 37 of 51 pitches for strikes.

Corpus Christi opens a critical four-game series with the RoughRiders Wednesday night. All-Star Jake Buchanan (7-0, 0.80) and Carlos Quevedo (2-4, 4.60) square off against Nick McBride (0-2, 11.70). First pitch is 7:05 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
