Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals scored three runs in the final two innings but it wasn't enough as the Springfield Cardinals earned a 9-5 victory over the Naturals on Wednesday afternoon at Arvest Ballpark.
The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead in the third inning thanks to a groundout and a two-run single from Jake Lemmerman. James Ramsey added two runs in the fourth inning with his third home run of the year.
Northwest Arkansas cut the lead to one with two runs in the fourth. Matt Fields led off the inning with a walk and scored on Rey Navarro's 14th double of the year, with Mitch Canham scoring on an Angel Franco groundout to cut the Cardinal lead to 5-2.
Springfield added a run in the seventh and eighth but the Naturals plated two runs in the eighth on a Franco triple, scoring Fields and Navarro to cut the lead to 7-4. A pair of Springfield runs in the ninth gave the Cardinals some insurance, as the Naturals were only able to score one run in their final at-bat.
Franco went two-four-four with a double, triple and three RBI to lead the Naturals. Roman Hernandez and Brett Eibner had two hits, while Fields and Navarro each recorded a double. Northwest Arkansas finished with 10 hits.
Anthony Ferrara earns his fifth win of the season. Ferrara allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings. Jason Adam takes the loss after allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five inning.
The Cardinals and Naturals will play two tomorrow, squaring off in a pair of seven-inning games to make up a for rainout on May 2. Sugar Ray Marimon (2-8, 5.71 ERA) is scheduled to start the opening game for the Naturals against Springfield's Tim Cooney (3-3. 3.31 ERA). Aaron Brooks (1-0, 4.50 ERA) will make his second Double-A start in game two against Jonathan Cornelius (0-0, 3.38 ERA).
