Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - A two-out, three-run double by Abraham Toro in the fifth inning Sunday evening was the key swing in Corpus Christi's 9-2 victory over Northwest Arkansas at Whataburger Field.

The game was delayed an hour-and-a-half due to a swarm of bees in the home dugout.

The Hooks (13-4, 56-30), who are a season-best 26 games over .500, have won six of their last seven series.

Ryan Hartman picked up his seventh win Sunday night, scattering two runs on five hits while striking out seven in five innings of work. Hartman ranks second in the Texas League in victories and ERA (3.00).

Cionel Perez earned the save by striking out eight over four shutout frames. Perez, who was touched for two singles, has yielded one earned run or none in 11 of 16 appearances this season. The hard-throwing lefty is averaging 11 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Hooks pitchers have allowed just six runs in the last four games.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Corpus Christi loaded the bases with no outs. Lefty Foster Griffin struck out the next two hitters before Toro sent a 2-1 pitch into the right-field corner to clear the bases.

Alex De Goti made it 4-2 with his lead-off home run to left field in the sixth.

The Hooks salted the game by scoring twice in the eighth and ninth.

Toro went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks, and four RBIs.

Akeem Bostick (0-2, 3.17) gets the ball for Corpus Christi Monday night in the series finale.
