Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN)- Down to just the last two outs in the game, Matt Beyer (Jr, UW-Whitewater) homered to center to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Just one inning later the Honkers would score Scott Thornburg (Jr, Creighton) from second base on a base hit from Bryan Karraker (Jr, New Mexico State) to take the lead in the tenth inning.

Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) would take it from there, pitching a 1-2-3 inning to secure the win for the Honkers, their fourth win in extra innings this season. The win for Dolsky was his first of the season, after a few rough starts he came back with a strong relief outing. Dolsky pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing only one hit and not walking any batters, while sending six batters down on strikes.

Bryce Rippentrop (So, Dakota County Tech) got the start for the Honkers, going 5.2 innings allowing five runs on eight hits. Drew Bowen (Jr, Oral Roberts) saw his first action of the season, coming out of the bullpen for 1.1 innings of work, allowing one run on one hit, a homerun, while striking out three.

The Honkers got a big help from the long ball tonight, getting three homeruns, all of them a first for the player this season. Aside from the aforementioned homerun by Beyer, Davy Wright (So, Texas Christian) and Reid Roper (Fr, Illinois) each homered, in the second and third innings respectively. The two each had a pair of RBI today as well.

Scott Thornburg also had another big day at the plate, after hitting two homeruns in the past weekend; he followed it up with a 3-for-5 performance today scoring the go-ahead run in the tenth as well. Thornburg improved his season batting average to .350 today.

The Honkers boarded the bus directly following the game to return home for a six game home stand tomorrow. The Honkers will take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 7:05 pm, the first of six games at home.

Kevin Johnson (So, Illinois) will be on the mound for the Honkers, making his Northwoods League debut. Johnson was 2-7 this year, making 16 starts for the Fighting Illini, holding a 4.54 ERA.

The Honkers home stand will start tomorrow, and run all week ending on Sunday, with an early game at 1:05. The Honkers will see the Border Cats for the second time of the season to start the home stand, and then see St. Cloud and Alexandria in a two game series each for the first time.
