Honkers Fall to Stingers in Fourteen

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers could not hold on for their fourth straight win on Friday night against the Willmar Stingers falling by a final score of 7-6 in fourteen innings.

Stingers first baseman Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) hit the game winner off of Honkers pitcher Reid Roper (Illinois) in the bottom of the fourteenth to spoil the Honkers three game winning streak.

The Honkers had a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but Rochester closer Dakota Smith (Kansas) surrendered a run with two outs for his first blown save of the season.

Rochester starter Tim Zufall (Oral Roberts) pitched 5.2 innings and surrendered three earned runs on three hits and six walks. Zufall struck out two Stingers in the game on his way to a no decision.

Dakota Smith finished the night 3 for 6 with two RBIs and right fielder Justin Parr went 2 for 6 with a run.

Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) and Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) each chipped in for two hits apiece in the defeat.

The fourteen inning contest was the longest of the year for the Honkers.

The Honkers (9-15) and Stingers (15-9) will meet again tomorrow, June 23rd at 6:05 PM for game two of the series. On the hill for the Honkers is right hander Kevin Johnson (Illinois). Johnson is 0-0 in two starts this season.

The Honkers will be home again on Monday, June 25th against the Alexandria Beetles at 7:05 PM.
