Green Bay Rockers News Release
Propelled by four big innings at the plate, the 'Frogs won their sixth straight on Friday night, defeating the Eau Claire Express 16-2 at Joannes Stadium on Friday night.
The Express struck first in the top of inning number two. Casey Gillaspie came in on a Nick Bullington RBI infield single. The thrown from third by Alex Abrams sailed wide of first base, allowing Tim Zier to come in all the way from first.
The 'Frogs took the lead in the third inning. After he was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, Chris Hoo came around on a Brooks Orton RBI single. Alex Abrams scored on a wild pitch, then Nick Stein doubled home Brooks Orton. David Armendariz reached on a fielder's choice and scored the fourth run of the inning on a Justin Seager single. Green Bay led 4-2 after three.
Green Bay added to its lead in the fourth inning. Clayton Eslick and Collin Shaw led off the inning with walks, and each came around to score on a Ransom LaLonde single, giving Green Bay a 6-2 lead.
The fifth was the big inning for the 'Frogs. Green Bay batted around and, at one point, seven consecutive batters reached base en route to a seven run inning and a 13-2 advantage. Seager, Eslick, Shaw, Hoo, Abrams, LaLonde, and Orton all came in to score in the 'Frogs in the fifth.
The 'Frogs were held scoreless until the eighth inning when they tacked on three more. Eslick reached on a leadoff single and then scored on a Shaw double. Shaw scored from third when Alex Abrams grounded into a double play, and then Ransom LaLonde took Frank Salas deep to left field for his first home run of the Northwoods League season. This made the score 16-2, the eventual final.
Zack Hermans (1-1) earned his first victory of the season. He went five innings, struck out seven Express batters, and gave up just one earned run. He was relieved by Mac Acker. Acker went three innings out of the bullpen without allowing an earned run. David Armendariz struck out two and pitched a scoreless ninth. It was his first appearance on the mound for the season.
The 'Frogs have now won six straight. They've outscored the Express 33-4 so far in the series. The third and final game of the series is tomorrow night at Joannes Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Join us in Frogville for Sudsy Saturdays presented by 107.5 The Fan, and Couples Night presented by Baylake Bank!
