Former Bullfrog Mitch Haniger was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 38th overall pick in the MLB Draft just over two weeks ago, and tonight, he will make his professional baseball debut with a nearby Class-A affiliate. The Brewers organization has decided to send Haniger to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to begin his pro career.

The Timber Rattlers, who were the champions of the first half of the Midwest League's Western Division, open the second half of their season tonight against the Burlington Bees.

In his 24 games with the Bullfrogs, Haniger batted .277, with 22 RBI and five home runs. He also posted a .542 slugging percentage while battling through back injuries throughout most of his time as a Bullfrog.

In Haniger's final college season with the Cal Poly Mustangs, the Mustangs posted a 36-20 record, and Haniger was one of the main components to the Mustang's success. Earning Big West Player of the Year honors, Haniger had a .346 average in 211 at bats. He led the Mustangs in walks (36) home runs (12), runs batted in (64) total bases (132), and slugging percentage (.626).

Two of Haniger's college teammates at Cal Poly, outfielder David Armendariz and catcher Chris Hoo, are members of the Bullfrogs for the 2012 season.

Haniger's first home game with the Timber Rattlers will be next Monday, June 25, when the team returns to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Monday, June 25, beginning a six-game homestand.
