Honkers Fall to Lunkers, 10-5

(Rochester, MN) - In a game that featured 12 errors between the two teams, the Rochester Honkers would find themselves on the losing end, falling to the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers by a score of 10-5, Tuesday night in Brainerd. The Honkers committed seven errors in the game, and the Lunkers committed five. The loss moves the Honkers to 14-19 in the second half of the season.

Jeff McKenzie (So, Delta College) would get the start, his seventh of the season. McKenzie allowed seven runs, five of them earned, on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out six batters while only walking three. The loss lowers his record to 1-3 on the season.

Rochester native Garrett Benson (So, Bethany Lutheran) would make his Honker debut in relief of McKenzie. Benson would pitch 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and three runs. The three runs were unearned.

Tony Kemp (Fr, Vanderbilt) would go 0-for-4 at the plate for the Honkers, but still be a major factor in the game. Though he was hitless, Kemp reached base three times and scored a run every time he was on base. Eric Birch (Jr, U of Mary) also had a productive day, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Honkers and Lunkers will both travel to Rochester for a three game series starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 10 through Friday, August 12. The middle game of the series will feature Minnesota Twins Organist Sue Nelson playing all game, with a fireworks extravaganza following the game.
