Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - In an almost do-or-die situation for the chance to make the Northwoods Playoffs, the Honkers fell 7-3, to the North Division leader Alexandria Beetles on Thursday night at Mayo Field. The Honkers record is now 13-15 and they are 7.5 games back of the Beetles in the second half race.
The Honkers took a lead in the fifth inning when a two run rally put them ahead 2-1, but the lead was short lived, allowing three more runs in the sixth for a 4-2 lead for the Beetles. That lead would prove to be insurmountable, as the Honkers would only get one more run in the game.
Cody Peterson (Fr, Madison College) made his Honkers debut pitching 6.1 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. Peterson struck out four batters and walked just two in his first time on the mound with the teal.
The Honkers struggled at the plate, only managing six hits in the game for their three runs. Davy Wright (So, TCU) went 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, and Erik Mattingly (Jr, Creighton) went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in the game.
The Honkers and Beetles will be back at it tomorrow night for the middle game of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm, and the first 500 fans receive a replica jersey.
