
'Frogs with 14 Hits in 6-2 Win

Madison, WI - August 8th, 2011 - The Green Bay Bullfrogs pounded out 14 hits against the Madison Mallards on the road Thursday in a 6-2 win to stay in first place by a half game over the La Crosse Loggers. Every hitter in the Bullfrog line up had a base hit. Paul Hoenecke led the charge with three hits including a solo home run.
Green Bay jumped on the board early against Estevan Uriegas with five runs in the first two innings. Phillip Ervin started the rally with a two-out two-RBI triple in the first. Ervin came into score on an RBI single by Andy Hunter who now has five runs driven in over his last two starts.
The 'Frogs tacked on another two two-out runs in the second inning. With no outs Nick Stein put two runners in scoring position with a double after a lead off single from Mehrten. Uriegas threatened to get out of the jam after Jonathan Walsh popped out and Steven Halcomb struck out. Jacob May however drove Mehrten in with a single. On the throw to the plate May took second base inducing a throw from the catcher that went into center field to allow Stein to score and give Green Bay a 5-0 lead.
The Mallards responded with two runs in the second. Jordan Owen came in on a throwing error from Halcomb and an RBI single from Andrew Wasmund. The Mallards would get just one more hit after that. Gaura threw well and earned the win. Gunnar Eastman made his debut with three scoreless innings as he struck out the first three hitters he faced in the sixth. Josh Jaro then entered in the ninth for his Bullfrogs debut and pitched a perfect ninth for the win.
Green Bay remains in first place by a half game over La Crosse heading into game two of the three-game set with the Mallards on Friday night at 7:05 pm.
