
Honey Hunter Homers Hurt Ducks in Gastonia

(Gastonia, N.C.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Gastonia Honey Hunters 9-3 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at CaroMont Health Park.
A first inning two-run single by Jesus Sucre off Ducks starter Darin Downs put the Honey Hunters on top early 2-0. It stayed that way until the fifth when a solo home run to left field by Mike Osinski made it a 3-0 game.
Gastonia doubled their lead to six in the sixth on a two-out, three-run homer to right by Emmanuel Tapia. Adrian Gomez added a two-out, three-run homer of his own in the eighth to make it a nine-run game. Long Island got on the scoreboard in the ninth when Steve Lombardozzi launched a three-run home run to right-center.
Honey Hunters starter Jailen Peguero (2-1) earned the win with five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Downs (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings with four strikeouts.
L.J. Mazzilli and Ryan Jackson each had two hits to lead the Ducks offensively.
The Ducks and Honey Hunters wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. at CaroMont Health Park.
