Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

El Paso, TX - Despite a promising start for the Albuquerque Isotopes, they continued to experience similar misfortune in West Texas. After taking an early 3-0 lead, the Isotopes were victimized by the long ball the rest of the night, surrendering three in an 8-5 loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas on Friday night at Southwest University Park.

The Topes have lost four games in a row and have fallen nine games below .500, tying a season-low.

Albuquerque (47-56) immediately got on the scoreboard in the first inning when D.J. Peterson clobbered a three-run homer to left-center, his fourth blast in the last three contests.

Isotopes starter Brandon Gold was touched up in the bottom half, as Jose Azocar and Brett Sullivan each singled home a run to cut the Chihuahuas deficit to 3-2.

Eguy Rosario, who was El Paso's hero with a walk-off homer Thursday night, went deep again in the second inning to tie the game. The Chihuahuas then took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Luis Campusano.

Albuquerque was able to tie the contest in the sixth. Peterson, Alan Trejo and Coco Montes all singed to bring up Bret Boswell, who narrowly missed an opposite-field grand slam, instead settling for a sacrifice fly.

Once again, El Paso (58-45) had an answer as Campusano launched a towering three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth off Ty Blach for what proved to be the deciding blow.

C.J. Hinojosa hit a solo blast to left for another Chihuahuas run in the seventh, then Jonathan Morales singled home Montes to bring Albuquerque within 8-5 in the eighth, but that is as close as the Isotopes would get.

Topes Scope: - This four-game skid is Albuquerque's longest since dropping four in a row to this Chihuahuas team from June 8-11.

- The Isotopes have lost the first four games of a series for the first time since June 17-20, 2021 at Reno.

- With tonight's defeat ensuring a series victory for the Chihuahuas, Albuquerque is 1-15-6 in their last 22 road series, dating back to being swept in the final four games of the 2019 season at Fresno.

- Albuquerque has dropped 14 of their last 19 in El Paso dating back to last year, and are being outscored 95-50 in the 14 defeats.

- Peterson has gone deep in three straight games for the first time since June 9-11, 2017 with Triple-A Tacoma vs. Las Vegas.

- The Isotopes have homered seven times in the first four games of this set and still have the most long balls in Minor League Baseball with 163, ahead of El Paso's 161.

- Blach took the loss in relief exactly six years ago to the day of earning a win at Isotopes Park in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Albuquerque, while starting for the Sacramento River Cats.

- The Isotopes have scored in 16 different innings throughout this series, but El Paso has answered by scoring in the bottom of that frame 11 times.

- Albuquerque surrendered two runs in the first inning, bringing their season total to 112 in the opening frame, by far the most in MiLB. The next closest is Low-A Stockton with 100. Albuquerque has allowed multiple runs in the first in 29 contests.

On Deck: Right-handed pitcher Karl Kauffmann is scheduled to make the start for the Isotopes tomorrow against El Paso right-hander Jay Groome, who was just acquired from Boston in the Eric Hosmer trade on Tuesday. First pitch from Southwest University Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
