Columbus, GA - After falling behind 6-1 the Columbus Catfish (16-15) were unable to come back, losing 8-3 to the Hickory Crawdads (15-16) Monday at Golden Park. The Crawdads offense was powered by two-run home runs from 3B Eddie Prasch and DH Mike McCuistion.

The Catfish threatened quickly in the first inning. With one out Jason Mooneyham and Travis Denker singled. Tony Harper then hit a ground ball to 2B Euvi Solano. As Mooneyham scored easily Solano opted for a force attempt at second base, but his error put runners on first and second base with one out. Columbus stranded the runners and left the inning with a 1-0 lead.

Hickory took a 2-1 lead when Prasch hit his third home run of the season in the third inning. They added four more runs in the fifth inning with three hits and three walks.

Mooneyham singled home a run in the sixth inning but the Catfish left two more runners on base and the score stayed 6-2. The Crawdads extended it to 8-2 when McCuistion hit his seventh home run in the seventh inning. The last Columbus run scored with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when a pop fly from 3B Russ Mitchell was dropped by C Steve Lerud and Mooneyham touched home.

RHP James McDonald (2-9) was hit for six runs, five earned, in the first 4 2/3 innings and suffered the loss. He gave up five hits and three walks while striking out nine. RHP Joe Bauserman (5-8) earned the win for Hickory after allowing two runs on four hits and seven walks in 5 2/3 innings. RHP Dustin Craig picked up his first save after permitting just one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings.

With two singles, one RBI, one run and two walks Mooneyham extended a streak of reaching base in 42 straight games. He has been on in each of 31 home games played with Columbus this season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 7:00pm Tuesday. RHP Dave Horlacher (1-2, 5.03) will match up against RHP Brad Lincoln (0-1, 13.50). For tickets or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit www.ColumbusCatfish.com.
