
Home, Sweet Home; Legends Walk off in Tenth Inning over Intimidators

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - After a seven game road trip, the Lexington Legends returned to Whitaker Bank Ballpark in walk off fashion. A walk off double in the bottom of the tenth inning by Jeison Guzman secured the Legends' 3-2 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators. The Legends improve to 16-15 on the season while the Intimidators fall to 12-18. Lexington's Charlie Neuweiler pitched a career high 8.0+ innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out nine.
The Intimidators were first to strike in the top of the third inning. Ramon Beltre belted a double to left field then scored on an RBI single by Ian Dawkins. Kannapolis led 1-0 after the third.
Lexington's Freddy Fermin tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. He blasted his second homer of the season and the game was knotted up, 1-1.
The Legends extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Matt Morales led off with a single then scored on an RBI by Rubendy Jaquez and Lexington led, 2-1.
Kannapolis tied the game in the top of the ninth inning. Ian Dawkins lined a lead off double to left field then advanced to third on a balk by the pitcher, Daniel James. An RBI double by Romy Gonzalez brought Dawkins home and the game was tied, 2-2.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Morales was placed at second base as the Pace of Play Runner. Jeison Guzman then smashed a walk-off double to left field, scoring Morales and the Legends won 3-2.
Daniel James was awarded the victory for Lexington, tossing 2.0 shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out two. Bennett Sousa was given the loss pitching 1.1 innings allowing one run (unearned) on one hit while walking one and striking out one.
The Legends and Intimidators meet for game two tomorrow, May 9 at 7:05pm.
