SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Giants needed only two big hits to defeat the Stockton Ports in the rubber match of a three-game series on Friday night at Municipal Stadium. The Giants got a two-run homer from Tyler Horan in the second inning and a solo blast from Jeff Kobernus in the third as the Ports were shut out by a final of 3-0.

Ports starter Chris Lamb (0-1), making his return from Double-A Midland, issued a leadoff walk to Angel Villalona in the second. Three batters later with two outs, Horan hit a two-run blast to left to give the Giants a 2-0 advantage.

Lamb began the third inning by yielding a home run to Kobernus to run the San Jose lead to 3-0. Lamb was lifted two batters later after allowing a one-out single to Ryder Jones. Lou Trivino came on in relief and retired the final two batters of the frame.

Lamb suffered the loss, allowing three runs on three hits while walking two in 2.1 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Giants starter Martin Agosta (4-6) pitched around back-to-back singles with two outs in the second, a one-out single in the third and had retired five batters in a row going into the sixth. In the sixth, Agosta gave up a leadoff single to Franklin Barreto followed by a walk to Tyler Marincov. After back-to-back strikeouts, Agosta walked John Nogowski to load the bases. Beau Taylor came up next and flew out to right field to end the threat and the outing for Agosta.

Agosta picked up his second straight victory, going six shutout innings and allowing five hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Ian Gardeck and Jake Smith (SV, 4) combined to retire nine of the final 10 Ports batters to close out the ballgame. Smith pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his fourth save of the season.

For Stockton, Trivino, Corey Walter and Brendan McCurry combined to pitch 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. Trivino pitched three-and-two-thirds while Walter and McCurry each tossed one inning. San Jose mustered only three hits during that span.

After dropping two of three in San Jose, the Ports return home on Saturday night to begin a four-game series with the Bakersfield Blaze. Left-hander Matt Stalcup (1-1, 3.97 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Bakersfield right-hander Dan Altavilla (4-6, 3.09 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
