Holzinger assigned to Falcons

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons announced today that the Tampa Bay Lightning have assigned center Brian Holzinger to the Falcons. Holzinger is expected to arrive Tuesday night and join the Falcons on Wednesday as they prepare to conclude a seven-game road trip in Worcester.

Holzinger has played in six games for the Falcons this season collecting two goals and nine assists for 11 points, including three multi-point games. Holzinger was voted the game's second star three times while with Springfield and had a Falcons team season high four assists on December 21st at Syracuse.

Holzinger has played in five games with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season picking up one assist after suffering a fractured left fibula on September 10, 2002. Holzinger was limited to 23 games last season due to shoulder injuries.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Parma, Ohio, is in his third full season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He started his pro career with the Buffalo Sabres organization after being Buffalo's 7th choice (124th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Holzinger won a Calder Cup with the Rochester Americans during the 1995-96 season and he set pro career highs in all offensive categories when he scored 22 goals and added 29 assists for 51 points in 81 games with Buffalo during the 1996-97 campaign.
