Czerkawski Named AHL Player of the Week

The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs right winger Mariusz Czerkawski has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 12, 2002. In four games, Czerkawski recorded five goals and three assists for eight points as the Bulldogs extended their points streak to 24 games (20-0-2-2).

Czerkawski recorded two goals and an assist each in back-to-back games at St. John's to start the week, helping Hamilton to a 5-4 victory on Tuesday night and a 5-1 win on Wednesday, as the Bulldogs tied an AHL record with their 13th consecutive road victory. Hamilton then returned home for a pair of games against Milwaukee, and Czerkawski registered an assist in Friday's 2-0 win and scored a goal in a 6-5 overtime loss on Saturday.

In recognition of his achievement, Czerkawski will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, which will be presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Flamborough Hockey Association in Czerkawski's name.

A veteran of 611 National Hockey League games with Boston, Edmonton, the N.Y. Islanders and Montreal, Czerkawski made his AHL debut on Dec. 28, 2002, and has recorded six goals and nine assists for 15 points in eight games with the Bulldogs. The native of Radomsko, Poland, is a two-time 30-goalscorer in the NHL. He appeared in the 2000 NHL All-Star Game, and represented Poland at the 1992 Olympic Games.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will look to make it 25 consecutive games with a point as they host the Lowell Lock Monsters at Copps Coliseum on Wednesday, January 15th.
