Hogs Earn Another Point in Comeback in Chicago

Rosemont, Ill.- After going 109 straight games without a shootout loss, the Rockford IceHogs dropped their second shootout in three games in a 4-3 contest at the Allstate Arena against the Chicago Wolves.
By earning a point Sunday, the IceHogs snagged four of a possible six standing's points over a busy three-game weekend.
Each team struck on the power play late in the first period. After getting out shot 12-0 to start the game, Rockford gained the first marker. Brad Winchester redirected a Joakim Nordstrom shot past Jordan Binnington at 18:09 for his 11th goal of the season. With the assist, Nordstrom extended his team high point streak to eight straight games.
Moments later, however, the Wolves would tie the score with their second power play chance of the game. After winning a face off, Alexandre Bolduc batted in a Mark Mancari rebound past Jason LaBarbera at 19:29 for his sixth goal of the season.
In the second period, the IceHogs would claim the lead back. Drew LeBlanc spotted Pat Mullane back door and the rookie knocked in his first career AHL goal at 2:00 of the second period.
But two quick strike goals by the Wolves vaulted them in front. The first came on another power play when Sergei Andronov picked up an Evan Oberg pass and snuck his ninth of the season through LaBarbera at 6:40. Then just seven seconds later Pat Cannone swiped in a rebound that Mancari fired off the mask of LaBarbera to give the Wolves their first lead of the game.
The game would remain 3-2 until late in period three when Rockford gained their third power play of the contest. Adam Clendening's point shot was deflected by Mark McNeill past Jordan Binnington with 47-seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
After a scoreless overtime the Wolves would outscore the IceHogs 3-1 in the shootout as Garret Ross notched Rockford's lone shootout goal.
LaBarbera finished with 33 saves while Binnington earned his first career AHL win while blocking 31 Rockford shots.
Next Home Game: Friday, Jan. 10 vs. Lake Erie. Face off is set for 7 p.m. The game is the first of a back-to-back set against the Monsters and game two of a three game week for the IceHogs.
