Hofer Earns First Pro Victory with Utica
April 13, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, OR. - Former Portland Winterhawks netminder Joel Hofer became the latest alumni to achieve success at the pro level, earning his first professional win Tuesday night.
The team's lead backstop from the last two seasons stopped 24 shots en route to his 5-1 victory for the Utica Comets over the Syracuse Crunch inside the Adirondack Bank Center.
Hofer amassed 43 wins in 66 appearances with Portland after being acquired from Swift Current on January 9, 2019. 34 of his wins came in 48 games played last season, which finished tied for the Western Hockey League lead among all goaltenders.
The fourth round selection (#107 overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2018 NHL Draft also led Team Canada to a gold medal in 2020 at the IIHF World Junior Championships and was named the tournament's best goaltender.
