Frederick Keys News Release
LJ Hoes registered a Keys season-high five hits and Miguel Abreu launched Frederick's first grand slam in a regular season game since April 25, 2010, as the Keys defeated Winston-Salem 9-3 in front of 2,965 fans at Harry Grove Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
The win was muted however as Keys centerfielder Trent Mummey was injured in the top of the second inning. Mummey raced back on a ball in the left-center field alley and made a dive to his right. As he descended he flied head first into the outfield wall and laid on the warning track for some time. An ambulance took Mummey to Frederick Memorial Hospital and initial reports show that Mummey was alert and had feeling in all of his extremities when he was taken to the hospital.
The accident occurred on a two-RBI triple from Dash catcher Luis Sierra that gave Winston-Salem the early lead.
The Keys would quickly battle back putting together the big inning in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded outfielder Miguel Abreu hit a high fly ball over the left-field wall to give the Keys a 4-2 lead. It was Frederick's first regular season grand slam since Ronnie Welty struck one last April 25th.
Frederick would blow the game open with four more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Hoes became the first Key since Bobby Stevens on May 10, 2009 to register a five hit game. He went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Keys started Bobby Bundy (3-2) was excellent again, picking up his third consecutive win with 5 and 2/3rd strong innings. The Keys right-hander struck out eight batters on the afternoon.
The Keys enter an important series as they try to chase down first place Wilmington. The Blue Rocks come to town for the weekend with the first of four games Thursday, May 5th at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
