
Hoelscher Lifts Off; Almonte Stifles; Nuts Win 4-3

Modesto, CA. - Shane Hoelsher and Yency Almonte each went deep in their own way to lead the Modesto Nuts to a 4-3 win over the High Desert Mavericks to lock up a series win on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.
Shane Hoelscher broke the tie in the fifth with a mammoth two-run homer over the left field wall for the Nuts (19-28). Yency Almonte (W, 4-3) went as deep as any Nuts starter this season working eight strong innings allowing just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Tyler Davis (L, 1-1) went 5.2 innings allowing four runs on ten hits in his start for the Mavericks (30-18). Davis struck out four and walked just one.
Jerry Vasto (S, 7/9) issued a two out walk but struck out the final man of the night to lock down the win for the Nuts.
