Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - In a tight pitcher's duel, the Modesto Nuts could not come up with the big base hit late as they fell 2-1 against the San Jose Giants on Friday night at John Thurman Field in front of a season-high 4,803.

The Nuts (19-29) finally got to Giants (28-18) starter Mark Reyes (W, 3-1) in the seventh when Wes Rogers cracked a RBI double to cut the Nuts' deficit in half. He was stranded at third to end the inning. In the eighth, Collin Ferguson led the inning off with a single before stealing second as the potential tying run. Ferguson was stranded at second as Reyes Moranta struck out the next three hitters in a row.

Reyes (W, 3-1) worked 6.2 innings for the Giants with three hits and one run while walking two and striking out three.

Sharp once again, Parker French (L, 2-3) went seven innings for the fourth consecutive start while allowing four hits and just two runs while walking only one and striking out four.

Daniel Carbonell was in on all the offense for the Giants. He cracked a one-out single in the fifth. Carbonell stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and came home on a very deep fly ball off the bat of Ty Ross. In the seventh, Chris Shaw led the inning off with a double and scored on a two-out double by Carbonell.

Rodolfo Martinez (S, 13/14) worked the ninth for the Giants and turned in a perfect frame.

Game two of the four-game, two-city trip is set for 7:05 p.m. at John Thurman Field between the Nuts and Giants. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
