Giants Begin Home-And-Home Series With Modesto Tonight The San Jose Giants open a four-game home-and-home series with the Modesto Nuts this evening at John Thurman Field. Modesto hosts the first two games tonight and tomorrow before the series shifts to San Jose for games on Sunday and Monday. Mark Reyes is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants this evening. Reyes, a former 22nd round draft pick, has posted a 3.21 ERA over his last five starts.

Back-To-Back Losses The Giants have lost their last two games after winning seven out of eight. San Jose needs a victory tonight to avoid matching their longest losing streak of the season (three straight losses from April 29-May 1).

14-Game Road Trip Tonight is the 13th game of San Jose's season-high 14-game road trip. The Giants are 7-5 thus far on the road trip. San Jose began the trip with two losses in Modesto before sweeping a three-game series in Stockton. The Giants then won three out of four games against South Division leading Rancho Cucamonga before dropping two out of three to the North Division leaders Visalia. The trip concludes tomorrow night in Modesto. The 14-game trip is the longest road trip for any team in the California League this season. San Jose is 14-5 in their last 19 road games overall. The Giants begin a season-high 11-game homestand on Sunday.

Blowout Defeat Last night's 16-0 loss in Visalia tied a San Jose Giants team record for largest margin of defeat. It marked the third time in the 29-year history of the team that San Jose had lost a game by 16 runs (last: 18-2 loss at Stockton on August 24, 2006). The Giants had allowed a total of just 14 runs in their previous six games before Visalia's 16-run outburst.

Hinojosa, Shaw Among League Leaders The Giants boast two out of the top five hitters in the California League in shortstop C.J Hinojosa (2nd .351) and first baseman Chris Shaw (5th, .323). Hinojosa also leads the league in on-base percentage (.436), is tied for third in runs scored (35) and tied for fourth in hits (54). Shaw ranks first in RBI's (38), tied for first in doubles (16), second in slugging (.599) and tied for third in home runs (10). Shaw has three home runs and nine RBI's over his last seven games.

Winning In May San Jose's 17-8 mark in May is the best record in the California League this month. The Giants have posted the best record in the league this month so far despite playing only five out of 25 games at home.

Duggar Heats Up In 11 games played during the current road trip, outfielder Steven Duggar is batting at a .348 clip (16-for-46) with three home runs and eight RBI's. Duggar has hit safely in his last six games while his .401 on-base percentage this season ranks fourth in the league. Duggar earned California League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday (.370 AVG with two home runs and five RBI's last week).

First Half Race The Giants (27-18) are two games behind Visalia (30-17) in the first half North Division race. Including tonight, 25 games remain in the first half. San Jose has one series remaining this half against the Rawhide - a three-game set at Municipal Stadium beginning next Wednesday.

Scoring Early The Giants' two highest scoring innings this season are the first (37 runs) and second (35 runs). San Jose has scored first in 31 out of their 45 games this year (69%). The Giants are 23-8 (.742) when scoring first this season compared to 4-10 (.286) when their opponent scores first.

Carbonell Returns Outfielder Daniel Carbonell joined the Giants from Extended Spring Training on Tuesday. Carbonell played in 66 games with San Jose last season and hit .279 with six home runs, 27 RBI's and nine stolen bases. He also played briefly with the Giants in 2014 (.344 AVG, 3 HR, 12 RBI's in 21 games). Carbonell, who defected from Cuba in 2013, signed a four-year major league contract with San Francisco in June of 2014. Carbonell replaced outfielder Johneshwy Fargas on the active roster. Fargas was transferred to Class-A Augusta earlier this week.

Opponent Notes: Modesto Nuts The Modesto Nuts, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, are tied for fourth in the North Division with a 19-28 record - 11 games out of first. Modesto has lost seven out of their last ten games. The Nuts rank eighth in the league in batting average (.242), eighth in runs scored (4.1 per game) and fifth in ERA (3.91). Modesto is 13-12 at home this season (6-16 on the road). The Nuts have posted a 5-3 record against San Jose this year. Outfielder Omar Carrizales ranks third in the California League with a .336 batting average. Modesto boasts three out of the top five base stealers in the league: Wes Rogers (3rd, 18 SB), Max White (4th, 15 SB) and Emerson Jimenez (5th, 14 SB).
