Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's came back from a two goal deficit in their Sunday afternoon contest against the Hamilton Bulldogs, a game that they won by a score of 5-4 in overtime. Noel Hoefenmayer had three for the hosts, while Austen Keating and newcomer Joseph Garreffa scored the Barber Poles' other two goals in this one.
Even though the 67's were heavily outshooting the visitors early in the period, it's Hamilton that opened the game's scoring, when Nathan Staios beat Will Cranley with a precise shot. Hoefenmayer tied things up before the end of the period with his third of the season, first of the game.
The Bulldogs re-gained their lead when Arthur Kaliyev scored at 7:05 of the second. Navrin Mutter gave them a two goal edge only 18 seconds later with a goal of his own. It was at that time that the 67's switched out Will Cranley for Cedrick Andree, who ended up playing a big part in Ottawa's win. The second period would however end with a 3-1 score in favour of Hamilton.
Ottawa came out on a mission in the third. Hoefenmayer cut the Bulldogs lead in half before Austen Keating tied things up around the halfway point of the final third. The new guy Joe Garreffa gave the 67's their first lead of the hockey game just over a minute after Keating's goal, raising the roof off of TD Place. Hamilton's Avery Hayes then went on to tie things up one more time with just about five minutes remaining in the game, sending it to sudden death overtime.
After both teams exchanged a few chances, it was Noel Hoefenmayer who decided things and called it a game, with his third goal of the day and fifth of the season.
The 67's will be back on the ice this Friday, October 25th in The Arena at TD Place, when they host Joseph Garreffa's old team, the Kitchener Rangers.
POST GAME COMMENTS
Head Coach André Tourigny
"We're not the most confident team right now, I think we played well but we had a tough time getting rewarded, kind of like in the Kingston and Peterborough games, that last one we thought we played really well but we lost 3-1. Again in the first, we were all over them and dominated, but found ourselves behind. That played in our mind a bit, but I liked the leadership, the boys stuck with it and we came up big in the third period."
Defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer
"A lot of the guys that or on this team now were part of our identity of the past few years of a third period team that doesn't quit, so it's kind of in our blood to carry that momentum and attitude into our third periods, and it's no different for this year."
Forward Joseph Garreffa
"Any day you get to play with guys like Marco and Keats, it's unbelievable. The skill level and the vision on Marco and incredible and Keats, I've seen this guy play for the past couple of years and he's lit it up, he's a great guy too so I'm excited to play with them."
