High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Matt Dillon worked five innings of relief with 10 strikeouts to help lift the HiToms to a 5-3 victory over Martinsville on Friday night at historic Finch Field.
The HiToms (12-6) took the lead in the fifth inning and never looked back as Cole Sturgeon singled to begin the inning off Jake Lambert (L, 4-4), Brock Hebert followed with a two-run line drive home run just clearing the wall in left to put the HiToms up 4-2.
Martinsville (7-10) answered with a run in the sixth inning off Matt Dillon (W, 3-2) to make it a one-run 4-3 game. However, that would be as close as the Mustangs would get as Dillon worked five innings in relief of Kurt Giller to propel the Tommies to victory.
In the seventh, the HiToms added an insurance run as Garrett Koster was hit by a pitch and later scored on a groundout by Hebert to give the Tommies the 5-3 advantage. Additionally, Hebert finished a triple shy of the cycle.
In the ninth, Martinsville put the tying run on base against Dillon before Justin Sizemore struck out to end the game.
The Tommies return to action tomorrow night at 7:30 when they travel to Forest City to take on the second place Owls who trail the HiToms by 2 ½ games. You can catch the HiToms at Finch Field on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 when they welcome Forest City to town.
