Fayetteville's Cody Davis Signs with Nationals
Published on July 22, 2011 under Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs announced that Cody Davis has signed a professional contract to play with the Washington Nationals.
Davis was the only player selected to the 2011 CPL All-Star Game as both a position player and a pitcher. At the plate, he hit .280 with nine doubles, one homerun, and 23 RBI's this season, while stealing eight bases in 13 attempts. He committed just two errors for a .964 fielding percentage as the SwampDogs primary centerfielder.
On the mound, Davis was 1-1 with a league-leading 12 saves in 19 relief appearances. He walked just three batters and struck out 29 in 23 innings pitched, allowing just 16 hits and four runs for a miniscule 1.17 ERA.
"We're happy for Cody and this tremendous opportunity," said SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman. "The chance to player professional baseball is what all of our players hope for, and we wish him the best."
The Loxahatchee, Fla., native will report to the Gulf Coast Nationals and join former SwampDogs outfielder Shawn Pleffner. Davis and Pleffner were also teammates this past season at the University of Tampa.
