Hitmen Win Fourth Straight, Edge ICE 3-2

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen stretched their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Captain Mark Kastelic scored the game winner, snapping a 2-2 tie with 43.6 seconds remaining. The Ottawa Senators prospect also added an assist to move within a point of Ryan Getzlaf for 10th place on the clubs all-time points list.

The Hitmen, on markers from Dakota Krebs in the first period and Conrad Mitchell in the middle frame, jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The ICE then pushed back, pulling even before the end of 40 minutes on goals from Ben Zloty and Michal Teply.

Winnipeg outshot Calgary 26-19 as the East Division leaders opened an Alberta road trip. Hitmen rookie goaltender Brayden Peters, in a first star performance, made 24 saves to pick up the win while Liam Hughes made 16 saves for the ICE.

On the special teams front, Calgary went 0-2 with the man advantage while Winnipeg was 1-6.

The Hitmen, 26-15-4-1, are back in the 'Dome on Friday, Jan. 31 to host the Brandon Wheat Kings. Game sponsor is Wawanesa for a 7:00 p.m. start. Visit their concourse booth behind section 227 where representatives will be handing out over 1,800 Wawanesa mini-sticks and 1,000 draw string bags.

It's also CBE Night featuring a first intermission on-ice performance by the Forest Lawn High School Dance Team while the Dr. Martha Cohen School Band will perform on the concourse.

Calgary will then host Red Deer in a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Feb. 1st for 'Every Child Matters' presented by Siksika Health Services in partnership with Siksika Child & Family Services and First Nations Health Consortium. The game is dedicated to Indigenous youth empowerment through sport and will celebrate the Blackfoot culture.
