Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen played their first game in seven days this afternoon as they welcomed the Swift Current Broncos to Scotiabank Saddledome.
A must win game for Calgary, special teams was a key factor in a 4-3 comeback victory. Swift Current would open up scoring in the first with goals from Owen Pickering and Grayson Burzynski less than five minutes apart. Down by two heading into the second period, a power play gave Sean Tschigerl his 20th of the season to cut the lead in half.
Riley Fiddler-Schultz put one away in the first minute of the third period, deflecting a shot from Grayden Siepmann to tie the game. Tschigerl would follow up scoring his second of the game to give Calgary their first lead of the game. Carter Yakemchuk scored his 15th of the season on the power play to put Calgary up by with ten minutes to go. Mathew Ward got Swift Current on the board once more before the end of the period, but Calgary was able to hold on to the 4-3 lead to secure the two points.
Calgary went two for three on the power play and was perfect on the penalty kill, killing off a total of six penalties in the contest. Brayden Peters eclipsed 3,500 saves in today's game and with the win moved past Mack Shields into sole possession of sixth place on the Hitmen's all time wins list. Sean Tschigerl earned first star tallying three points while Riley Fiddler-Schultz and Carter Yakemchuk rounded out the list both producing multi point games. Calgary now sits one point out of the eight and final playoff position behind Swift Current.
