Portland, Ore. - Luca Cagnoni ripped home a game-winning one-timer late in the second period to help the Winterhawks (37-17-3-3) snap a nine-game winless skid with a 3-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips (30-26-2-1) at the VMC on Sunday.

With the game deadlocked at one goal apiece, Cagnoni played catch along the blue line with Gabe Klassen before swinging wide for a one-time opportunity, which he rifled into the top corner at 18:49 of the second stanza.

Portland dominated the first period with 22 shots to Everett's eight, but the Silvertips netted the game's first goal midway through the frame on Ty Gibson's power-play strike. The Winterhawks stuck to their game, though, and leveled things up late as Klassen whacked home a rebound with just over a minute to play before intermission. Klassen has tallied four goals in three games this weekend and leads the team with 34 on the year.

Neither team tallied in the third until Robbie Fromm-Delorme hit the empty net to seal Portland's win. Jan Špunar picked up the win with 27 saves in the Hawks' cage.

Portland's next game comes Friday against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 P.M. from Spokane Arena.
