Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced a five-player trade with the Vancouver Giants.
The Hitmen have acquired 20-year-old right winger Jackson Houck, 18-year-old goaltender Cody Porter, 18-year-old left winger Jakob Stukel and a conditional third-round selection in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for 19-year-old forward Chase Lang and 19-year-old defenceman Ben Thomas. With the addition of Houck, 20-year-old Hitmen forward Elliott Peterson was placed on waivers.
"Trades are always difficult to make when you move players who have been in your organization for a number of years," said Mike Moore, Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations. "However, we feel this transaction is important for our team both this season and moving forward. This deal sees the Calgary Hitmen and Vancouver Giants add quality players to their respective teams."
Houck, a native of North Vancouver, B.C., was the Giants' third-best scorer this season with four goals and nine points in 12 games played. The 20-year-old forward, selected by Vancouver in the third round (57th overall) in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, has recorded 198 career points, including 91 goals, in 268 games. In 2013, he was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round, 94th overall.
Stukel, a Surrey, B.C, product, was a 2012 second-round bantam draft pick of the Giants while Porter, a protected list addition from North Vancouver, signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement in May 2014.
Houck, Porter and Stukel are expected to join the Hitmen for practice on Wednesday ahead of the team's next home game on Thursday, Oct. 29, when the Spokane Chiefs visit the Scotiabank Saddledome (7:00 p.m., Sportsnet 960-The Fan).
